How to Store DTF Inks Correctly for Maximum Shelf Life
Correct storage of DTF inks is a key factor in determining their shelf life, quality and stability throughout use. Improper storage can lead to pigment sedimentation, changes in consistency or reduced colour quality, all of which directly affect the final print. It is therefore important to follow a few basic rules to ensure that your inks last as long as possible and continue to perform reliably.
One of the most important aspects of storage is ambient temperature. DTF inks should be stored at a stable temperature, ideally between 15 and 25°C. Excessively high temperatures may cause premature pigment degradation, while very low temperatures, especially below freezing, may damage the ink components. Direct sunlight should also be avoided, as it can accelerate pigment degradation and alter colour performance.
Ambient humidity is also important and should ideally remain between 40% and 60%. An excessively dry environment may contribute to ink drying, while high humidity can cause unwanted condensation inside the containers. The containers should always be tightly sealed to prevent air from entering, as this may cause oxidation and reduce the quality of the ink.
Before use, mix or gently shake the ink thoroughly so that the pigments are evenly dispersed again, ensuring consistent colour and viscosity. If the inks have been stored for an extended period, filtering them may help remove any sediment, clots or particles.
Neglecting proper storage may result in reduced print quality. Settled pigments can clog the printhead, colours may become uneven and the inks may not perform as expected. Investing in a suitable storage environment, such as a temperature-controlled room with stable humidity, helps ensure reliable and trouble-free printing.
